Bret Stephens: “I think that the worst way of dealing with hateful speech is to try and shut it down,” Stephens said in an interview with The Daily prior to his talk. “The answer to hate speech is more speech. Hateful speakers thrive on controversy that some universities thoughtlessly afford them by trying to ban

I’d like to see if Bret Stephens expressed similar concerns about dehumanizing people by comparing them to insects when Trump was going on about infested cities recently. Because he is correct in that leaders/media figures denouncing groups of people as cockroaches and the like is a form of stochastic terrorism.. but

I’d like to see Bret Stephens be a woman on Twitter for two hours.

I’d like to see Bret Stephens work two hours in a telephone customer service or tech support job and then come at me about how bedbug is such a terrible thing to be called. What a fucking snowflake he is.

I laughed and then grimaced.

He should flee the country and move in with Roman Polanski.

If Miley has seven dogs and three cats, why would only seven animals be sharing the bed? Who gets left out (besides the horses and pig)?

It would have been nice if this article had included (or at least links to) what it was that Roxane Gay “let him hear,” which I had to go digging for and is well worth reading, as to be expected:

I mean, they still employ Bari Weiss and Ross Douthat, so did we really expect any other outcome for this asshat?

Oh and he told my sister he would destroy her for exposing his daughter to “witchcraft and the devil” with a Ouiji board at a sleepover party she held for their girls...  He’s bonkers.

Ughhhhhhhhh, I know the guy accusing Katy. I believe his claims and I agree it’s sexual assault to expose someone like that, but my god he’s the worst fucking human being I’ve ever met. He’s abusive towards his friends, he’s verbally attacked my sister many times over text and kept harassing her and threatening her.

“However, I recognize that the rules and standards by which we are — and should be — measured against today are very different than they were in the past.“

This BS phrase is an admission of guilt in my book.

I’ve seen him perform countless times and met him a few times. The thing is, this doesn’t surprise me at all; the god complex was always evident - because he is and has been treated like a god throughout the global world of opera. In Los Angeles, he IS the opera.

I believed that all of my interactions and relationships were always welcomed and consensual. People who know me or who have worked with me know that I am not someone who would intentionally harm, offend, or embarrass anyone. However, I recognize that the rules and standards by which we are — and should be — measured

Agreed. Not trying to nit-pick his words, but using “females” instead of “women” always rubs me wrong.

I’m sorry for any victim of sexual abuse, and Kloss has my sympathies. This is a credible story of abuse. His rhetoric skews a little MRA-lite though and that’s troubling—I wish he were using his story to encourage more male victims of sexual abuse to come forward instead of saying “Look! Males aren’t the problem!”

Fucking forever. I remember first hearing about this nearly 20 years ago and being confused why it was tolerated.

Screw the Met. They've known he's a predator for decades.

And this is why I don’t like celebrities interviewing celebrities. A proper journalist would have pushed back on all of this. A proper journalist would have questioned whether his silence was genuine because he didn’t want to be the focus of #MeToo or cowardly because he wanted to come back later and quietly make more

I’m not going to listen to this episode but people that have had indicated the Monica, Dax’ sidekick, adamantly said “WOMEN LIE!!” and that Casey, oddly, had to be the voice of reason during that exchange.
