So, uh, what does everyone think of the new Voltron season? I'd say I find it around equally good as the last one, but lower than my expectations and different in its strengths. The switch to more episodic storylines with fewer recurring plot elements is I think a good move for the show, and let them have a few more

I didn't get anything for the holidays, but a friend of mine who I watched the show with got me that shirt. The texture of the star is a major turn-off: it's that rough plasticky paint that feels terribly scratchy and always bunches up. Regardless, I still wear it.

It's pretty hilarious that you'd typo Matt Burnett as "Mark Burnett" in the context of leaks.

I watched the episodes in the first 24/48 hours but then surprisingly didn't have to deal with many spoilers at all.

A Twitter glitch just overlaid an SU screenshot with a news article about Trump. It's, like, a metaphor for something, man.

My other bit of theory: the Diamonds are probably based on the four medieval temperaments. YD is choleric (corresponding to "yellow bile"), BD is melancholic, PD is presumably sanguine (literally meaning "ruddy") and WD is phlegmatic by process of elimination. PD's death threw the humors out of balance which is why

If you're bugged by Andy being Launchpad McQuack we are no longer friends

I love the Diamonds. They're kind of villains, and kind of these weird Gothic caricatures, totally lost within their own heads. Not to spoil or anything, but Homeworld's starting to give me a Gormenghast vibe— Blue Diamond tottering around and mumbling like Sepulchrave, Yellow scowling at everything, a human zoo still

What happened to the bat? I was expecting it to come back for the very end but it never did.

I wasn't sure Seo and Somvilay were really the right choice for a character whose appeal has always rested on great animation, but the ebullience of the James Baxter bits actually worked well with the weird poses and staticness of Seo and Somvilay's stuff

I don't see a huge amount of similarity to them beyond just the general type, but it's pretty therapeutic to watch PB's dilweed speech from the S6 finale in light of recent events.

The punk soundtrack for the race was suspiciously Tony Hawkish. I was half expecting it to break out into Papa Roach.

It's only surprising given that he doesn't get normally get screeners for the show.

"Two Swords" was very talky and exposition-heavy, which isn't the best fit. AT works best when the weird stuff is allowed to just wash over you rather than being patiently explained. The S7 finale was pretty scattershot and incoherent, so I guess something like this is partially necessary, but it still could've been

Rivals, Or: Miles O'Brien as Bill Murray from Space Jam

Well, the whole arc with Flame Princess came at a point in the show where they hadn't quite decided on Finn maturing and becoming an adult. That trend starts around the end of S5. A lot of fans singled out that stretch of episodes in S5 where Finn acts like a dick about Flame Princess and Princess Bubblegum as a real

I mean, there are times when I can't come up with a better term than "alt-right"? I had a roommate a year ago who watched a lot of Sam Hyde and seemed to have some other circumstantial connections to the movement, but at the same time I never heard him claim to support Trump or have strong opinions about

I think the problem is that after she was revealed to be a fusion, most other aspects of her character became neglected. There's room for some of that, but it can't and shouldn't constitute everything she is.

I get your point, but it's a little funny to say that Garnet sees fusion as something "beautiful but not permanent".
