Yeah, I'm sorry. You have a point, and you're being articulate and polite about it unlike most of the people I've seen on tumblr. I have my own issues with the show's black-coded characters if you've read my posts elsewhere. I've given my two cents, and I'll stop here.

Well, that's as much as you can hope for with a recurring character on this show. Lapis only got that much in "Mirror/Ocean Gem", and Jasper didn't get a sympathetic look for over a year!

Most of my criticisms were *about* the episode in the context of the greater arc.

I think we're just seeing the leading edge of Rose's unreasonable behavior. She's a politician: full of moderate, peaceful platitudes but behind all sorts of bad shit when you start poking around.

They probably want to end the series on a high note.

The ending probably could've been better-handled, I'll give you that, but the extremism is more or less essential to the premise of the character. If Bismuth comes across as too reasonable, then there's no reason for her to have been bubbled in Lion's mane. I think the way they did it struck a decent balance as far as

I mean, I get why people ship them. They've got better chemistry together than most romantic leads, especially for shows aimed at a young audience.

Amethyst and Peridot are the new Pearl and Amethyst to me. They like each other, and they want to be supportive, but they can't stop stepping on each other's toes. They're kind of a hot mess together, and I really want to see them get some insight into their own relationship.

Imagine if they'd misremembered where the Cluster was! What would they have done then? Say "oopsie-daisy"?

I get why people are mad, but I still think people are treating the episode as a complete statement on the character rather than the complicated beginning of a relationship, just like with every other Gem Steven's met on the show.

I'm still annoyed by the fact that they destroyed it. I mean, the control panel is filled with important Homeworld information that could have come in very handy if the CGs ever wanted to get some recon, but Garnet destroyed it in a fit of rashness because she was angry at Peridot. Meanwhile, in the very next episode,

My favorite is Trying-Way-Too-Hard Pearl from "Friend Ship".

After "Beta" and "Earthlings" resolved the running Jasper storyline we've been dealing with for the past two weeks, I was left with one thought: how will the show transition to something different while still keeping the stakes high for the end of the season? The answer, apparently, is that they didn't bother:

I loved the shot of one of the Rubies in tears with envy over the Jasper-cuddles. Poor girl.

Well, what happens to Jasper because of that is arguably worse.

I thought the point of Lapis's art was this: the things you're driven to make for the sake of fandom may reveal far more about yourself than you realize.

Pure glass all the way to the back, baby!

Jasper even rounded up one of those in addition to all the Jaspers. You can see it run off at the end.

I die a little inside any time a character gets a snack food nickname.

"Reformed" was okay, but it felt a little melodramatic, trying too hard to underline her problems and the symbolic meaning of Amethyst's shapeshifting.
