I can not agree with this more. Look at Lavelle’s penalty yesterday, she was running across goal and the smacked the ball out of the area but the letter of the law is a penalty.

Are we surprised 34 CBs tend to lose their speed (and they have less to begin with) and have to rely on their brains and positioning. But she’s been the closest to poor of the whole USA team.

I’d never watched any Mewis before this tournament and I’ve fallen slightly in love with her cross field balls. I was at bar with a mate who is watching bits but not much of the tournament and he was gushing about her cross field balls. It’s something you don’t see done well in the men’s game so to see it at the WWC…

Part of the issue is Sauerbraunn is an all time CB but she has lost her step. She’d still be the best CB in about 18 of the 24 teams at this tournament she has started to fade to the twilight of her career.

Horan and Mewis have been superb, I think you are right on why she sat. I’d take off LaVelle for Ertz or play Ertz instead of Sauerbraunn in CB

The High School system is a huge reason you do get quality teams though, you have a much much deeper pool because you have far more girls playing much longer.

I think it was after that they thought they could really exploit it. But also you had Greenwood and Duggan on the left which is a much weaker side and Kirby central playing pretty poorly this tournament.

You can't be sure. Because she was being pulled back as she tried to get through. It's a red by the letter of the law. I think they are let go but that's on other refs being lenient bit this ref being bad.
