Depending on what kind you want, you can find them for pretty cheap on eBay actually. The one I have shown was a little more expensive since it's san-x brand and san-x stuff can be kind of on the pricey side since it's such a popular import.

If you have a 3DS already, there's actually a lot of faceplates available, though you'll have to order a decent amount of them from Japan. I'm hoping that since Nintendo's making official ones, they'll be more accessible over in the States. (That picture's my current plate btw!)
