Right. There's definitely a difference between finding a person attractive and thinking of a person as a sexual object. The former is rather flattering; the second... most definitely not.

I mentioned this on another comment, but I think the reason why men who do not catcall think that catcalling is not a regular thing is because the former are usually not around or simply not paying attention when the latter is happening. Thus, since it's not something that has happened often in their personal…
Unfortunately it seems like every time I have this conversation with a guy, he responds in a very similar way that falsettoland1980 did originally. I've tried to figure out why, and the closest conclusion I can come to is that, since guys who do not engage in catcalling are usually not "around" or "paying attention"…
Exactly! There are definitely situations in which a stranger can approach you and give you a genuine compliment on your appearance that makes you feel good about yourself. Unfortunately I deal with a lot more catcalling than actual compliments though :/
I agree with everyone here. Unless the guy is either starting to become violent or is so aggressive that you feel the need to confront him first, I would definitely go with engaging the woman being harassed instead. If the guy has a problem with you doing that, THEN take it up with him. The one time I had a guy come…
Can't wait for this. Unfortunately I look anywhere from 3 to 5 years younger than I actually am (to the point where I get told I have a fake ID on a semi-consistent basis), so it's a long way off D:
Unfortunately many of us have either consciously or unconsciously been raised to avoid confrontation especially with men. While I certainly don't think I want to dropkick a guy at a drop of a hat, I am doing my best to try to reprogram how I think about it. It's harder than I thought it'd be :/
I seriously got starred, like, a few days before stars were no longer a thing. It's obviously all my fault that things changed. I'm sorry.
Your mother's family obviously doesn't know what it's talking about.
No kidding. I met a woman with the last name of Wiener the other day, and she was obviously married. I asked her if she took his last name, and she very hesitantly said yes. Apparently his family was so crazed about others looking down negatively on it that they verbally attacked anyone who did - including her when…
I think what bothers me actually isn't the spreadsheet itself. It's the way he presented it to her. Now, if he had made the spreadsheet and used it during an actual in-person conversation with her, I don't think it would've been nearly as clinical. The two could've gotten onto a discussion about the reasons behind…
That's absolutely fine since that's what you want :) I think the big thing being discussed here is how much people can be ostracized for making a decision that's different than that, especially for their children.
While I'm sure his reasons were deeper than this, some people just have HORRIBLE last names. Who says that, if the person with the terrible last name is male, that he shouldn't be able to choose to take a significantly less terrible name? But no, I'm sure if most people heard that he took yours, they'd think he was…
I have a friend who kept her last name since she is the last to carry her name as well. The two aren't having kids yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the kids take her last name as well when it's all said and done.
I actively think about this and DQ7 every day. I really hope someone decides they're worth it D:
I really want all of the 3DS Dragon Quest games to finally come over to the West. Square has realized that RPGs are viable here now, which I think will help, but these might no longer be on the list to localize since they've been out for so long :/ I've really considered getting a Japanese 3DS for them to be honest.
That's funny because you're probably right, but Hot Fuzz is seriously one of my favorite comedies. It really shows that this list is more of a set of guidelines rather than hard-fast rules, though really, most writers should take them as rules.
Nope, everything has to be so original that you have to make up your own language to write the story in. Except, you know, writing stories in and of itself is unoriginal, so you're fucked. Sorry :P
It really is, and Akiyama helped in no way whatsoever.
