I think he’s just being dismissed because he tried to call out his discomfort as some example of a double standard. He’s allowed to feel bummed at being objectified and it’s fine for him to complain about it too. It just kind of annoying that he seems to think he’s the rule instead of the exception.

The key here, as another commenter pointed out, is that there’s a difference between complaining about objectification on one hand, and comparing the way that men are objectified in our culture to the way that women are, as though they’re remotely comparable.

Or maybe if you’re going to complain acknowledge the larger social reality. Like, “I hate being objectified and reduced to my body or hair. I know this is something that happens to female actors way more than it happens to me. It sucks. Let’s work so we’re all judged by our talents and not only our looks.”

The lesson is that everyone has it worse than white dudes ... so they should shut up about inequality.
