The best way is to sort your photos into folders. There really isn't any other way that I'm aware of that will make a substantial difference.

It isn't automatic, and only works with .jpg files, but I've found Namexif works great, as it renames the files based on the date and time that they were taken. You could probably also create a script that uses Image Magick for a more flexible solution.
:ouch: I feel your pain. The first thing that I'd do is acknowledge to your friend that whatever happened to the bike while it was in your possession is your responsibility, and that you fully intend to replace it with a bicycle with the same features as soon as you can save up enough money. I would also find any…
Check out the demo of 123di. It is one of the best introductions you'll ever find.
FWIW, it isn't hard to find good proxies.
I applaud you, sir.
FWIW, scripted SMS can be done easily with Bmail, with proper formatting.
DAY-amn! You've doubled my single-window record!
I used carriage bolts with mine, and made an inverted 'U' of shelves that was tall enough for me to hang my clothes from, in the center arch.
Ironically enough, I intend to build a shed out of them that will be half-again as strong as compared to one built using standard construction methods.
Most people don't leave their photos on the camera.
While I appreciate your enthusiasm, I have one caveat for you: No matter how intelligent an individual is, the mythical 'consumer' is an idiot who wants what he doesn't already have, without considering if that would be better or not. (Ever watch the Simpsons episode where Homer helps make the 'ultimate' movie? …
Yes, you are missing something; most computer technicians don't have the tools or the training to recover data off of a faulty drive. Even when you do, it isn't worth it to most of us because it can literally take weeks of 24/7 scanning to recover all that can be recovered, then hours of work to get the found files…
A good article. Here are some other (mostly electronics repair) tips that I've picked up over the (many) years:
Pffft. Your reply shows you know nothing of homeopathic java brewing technique. The listed method is is only for neophytes; a master knows that a single, Turkish grind particle is enough to make the best pot you'll ever taste.
A level tablespoon is called a butter knife.
I remember reading about one guy who took 'offsite' storage literally; he put a PoE-powered NAS in a locked, well-sealed metal box (to release heat, I imagine), and mounted it on the power pole in the back yard. If there was ever a fire, his data would definitely be safe, and he would easily be able to have physical…
Boy, I feel old. I remember pranking someone using MS-DOS 3.3. I renamed his COMMAND.COM to COMMAND.COM and just about drove him crazy, because I could easily start up his computer (right in front of him, BTW) and he couldn't. On another guy's computer, I used XCOPY to create a complete (empty) directory tree, then…
Actually, for ROMs, GoodMerge is the best way to go, as it takes a ROM image collection (raw or compressed) and a "*Have.txt" file and produces a number of 7Z, RAR, Ace, or Zip archives with all the files associated with a particular game stored in one file. (i.e. the 10 different versions of a 32MB game that…
