What is this, a megalopolis for ants?!
What is this, a megalopolis for ants?!
Well the article didn’t state the rest of the mammoths died relatively quickly. The mainland populations outside of these two isolated populations likely was a long, drawn out process of habitat loss and hunting. But that’s not what this article was about, nor did it make any claims about mainland mammoth demise.
Wrangle Island is just the Shelbyville of mammoth settlements. All the other mammoths continued on to North America, while the Wrangle mammoths stayed put to marry their attractive cousins.
Other factors, like poor access to fresh water and human predation, were cited as other possible reasons for their demise.
The entire other part of the article outlining weakened genetics and a poisoned water source, leading to already weak animals?
Listen, storage is damn fucking exciting! I hope it’s as exciting as the last big storage device:
Goretex doesn’t breathe well IMO. Better than anything else waterproof, sure, but still not well. This is supposedly better.
It’s a ski/snowboard jacket first and foremost. The cloth is a goggle wipe.
Not even necessarily the biggest deal. Currently if its too warm, especially when I’m skinning up, I just wrap it to one of the outer ties on my pack. Doesn’t really need to go IN my pack. But would be a nice to have.
Wash with products with Nikwax and reapply the DWR coat and they’ll be restored and last a long ass time.
I don’t think they ever suggested that Goretex jackets start at 400. But comparable jackets sure do.
This fabric is supposed to have more of a softshell feel if my understanding is correct. But you’re right, you do sacrifice durability. But my summer rain jacket is definitely packable, but its a much lighter weight and less durable version of goretex.
Also, just looked and the Freethinker is $700 CAD, which compared to the one I got years ago was $750 CAD.
I own the Freethinker jacket from a few years back and its phenomenal. I’ll upgrade to this once that jacket has seen the end of its days. To some of the people commenting:
Why steal music when I’m sure you have unfettered access to the entire Kid Rock and Ted Nugent discographies?
I’m in Southern Alberta and we just got hit with that storm that covered Montana with parts of the region getting over 3 feet of snow while a couple larger cities got 1-2 feet. And we’re supposed to be back up to seasonable by Friday!
Why not both? Toss in a blended pina colada while you’re at it.
...this latest event—which was predicted—has not been linked to climate change.
Yeah, that attitude really needs to change.
Ya know, I’m happy with St. Louis, South Carolina, Texas... as long as it’s low and slow.
