I wasn’t familiar with the untimely demise of Rudolf Diesel, but while reading his Wikipedia entry I realized how lucky we were. Given how insanely complex German names can be, what are the odds we’d end up with “diesel” engines instead of Fashingbauer or Königsmann or something else unhelpful.
