Can you regular watchers tell me if this will make any sense if I watch it without having seen any other episodes?

Yes. I think they got caught up in cliffhanger-itis and lost track. But I’m hoping they’ve gotten back on track like they have been for the vast majority of the series. Even when the train is moving very slowly and making too many stops, like in season 2.
