I would pay too.  Jalopnik as well

Another voice in support of a subscription based deadspin 2.0. My assumption is that deadspin’s readers have more disposable income than average, so this business model might actually be feasible.

Seriously, there are thousands of us who would chip in to a kickstarter or patreon-type arrange if that’s what it takes to get this off the ground.

Seconded that I would pay an Athletic-type subscription if the writers took their talents and started something of their own.

I pay those idiots at the NYT $12.50/month so I can read like 5 articles. I’d gladly pay that $150/year to Deadspin if they were rid of current management.

Well they fired Barry and crapped all over the staff and site but at least they still have all that sweet sweet Farmers’ cash!

Ditto. I really value what the authors on this site have cultivated. I want to DO something to protect it, not just complain. A boycott of the site seems counterproductive. Wonder what else we can do?

Get the Kickstarter up already.

Seconding the relationship with the site and also that promise. You just know something’s gotta give, the corporate morons up top have made it clear they won’t stand for the shit the writers pulled yesterday - which by the way is absolutely, 100% in keeping with what we’ve come to expect from this team, and what we

I’m 100 percent in support of the entire Giz family resigning and creating their own independent publication free from Great Hill’s bullshit, and would do everything I could to help out. And a paywall would totally be worth it if it keeps everyone safe from vulture capitalists.

Jim Spanfeller still buys his Dockers from the husky boys section.

Hey Drew. You’re the best, and good luck with the brain and everything.

Drew, is it true that neither Jim Spanfeller nor Paul Maidment ever had friends, a girlfriend, made any sports team, or has seen The Godfather? Is it also true that Jim smells like sweaty hobo taint and Paul smells like a urinal puck?

A question for the Funbag: why should I keep reading anything on this website after Jim Spanfeller and Paul Maidment went to the lengths of firing Barry, like cowards, for the dumbest of reasons?

I want to support the writers here—this is both the best website that exists, and has ever existed, and the best sports

You’re wrong; it’s money. It’s money in quick, measurable, strip expenses, drive revenue, exit ASAP ways. That they hold no other gods sacred is the problem. The secret sauce that maintained viewership was not understandable. This is the world I’ve worked alongside for 20 years.

The “Ads Complaint” post was technically the domino that fell instead of these stick to sports posts today.  Thus the plug in ads were that slush fund for the big hats to get their money and run and disappear

Yep. Since they’re a VC, destroying the blogs was part of the plan from the beginning. It’s becoming messy since the staff/writers aren’t going down without a fight.

This is a true story: When I was in my dirtbag 20s, my friends and I used to hang out at a crappy bar because we loved the main bartender and the culture there. Then the scumbags who owned the bar fired the bartender we loved. He went to work at another bar and we followed him there. The first bar is closed now.

If our worst fears come to fruition and deadspin gets shut down, the one silver lining will be that the last post that actually stuck to sports was one about the Browns being all Brownsy.
