Sorry but I’m gonna say that 17's are the best. They can still be had in very light weights. Tires are affordable, and there are more performance options with a 17. They will fit performance brakes. You also retain more aesthetic appeal, and a good blend of ride and handling. NOTHING beats a 17 inch wheel.

i do agree with the cvt part, but there’s options like the Tiguan that don’t have a cvt.

Besides that fact that the slopping hatch has to seriously impact cargo capacity. It’s like mazda got embarrassed that the 3 has hatch variant and tried to hide it. The same way they got embarrassed about making mazdaspeed, and tried to distance themselves from it as much as possible.

It’s not that sporty sells, it’s that the “appearance” of being sporty sells. That’s why you have M, and ST packages etc.... that are merely just the looks without the performance upgrades.

I can’t say that the cx-5 is WAY niceer to drive than any crossover it’s competing with. Many other models have caught up, and have become quite competent handlers while often delivering more punch from the engine.

This is 100% the correct take. Add to the fact that on average their cars tend to have a bit less power than competitors, and their option packages (tiers) are ridiculous. Thier deal network is also trash and does not com close to communicating Luxury.
