It's really screwing with my sense of scale!

I felt like 3 to 4 was like going from Lego to Duplo or something of the sort. Fewer options, less granular control. The social stuff and multitasking are really cool but I used to spend so much time customizing every item and piece of clothing that it just feels so generic now.

And a smallpox vaccination!

Birds use the ZW sex determination system. This means that the female's ovum (Z or W) and not the male's sperm (all Z) determine the sex of the offspring.

Thanks, I didn't know much about the movie. It sounds like it might be disappointing for my husband since he loves the original.

I don't have any recollection of the trailers for Sweeney Todd, maybe they figure people will see musical and stay away.

My husband is a big fan of Into the Woods but when we saw the trailer before Guardians we were left confused as to if it was even going to be a musical at all.

I thought that too, but then was reading some 17th century manuscript and saw it used. Was thoroughly confused until I looked up the etymology and found out it was from Italian meaning "same as above" or "same as before."

See, at first that's what I thought she meant and had just told me the story backwards, I had to ask her to repeat herself a few times for it to really sink in.

When my best friend was getting her education degree, they taught her to teach that the sky was blue because it reflected the ocean. I think I nearly blew a blood vessel when she told me that. It can't be too much to teach a simplified version of Rayleigh scattering to elementary school kids instead of lying to them.

This just reminds me of how wonderful Connie Willis' The Doomsday Book is!

When I'm suffering from terrible hay fever and nasal congestion, I buy a little nasal spray bottle of sterile saline at the drugstore. Relieves the mucus and reassures me my brain won't be eaten by amoebas.

When I was a child, my mother would read stories to me out of "The Bumper Book" which was her book when she was a little girl in the '40s. One of these stories was "The Little Boy Who Was Too Thin" all about the little skinny boy who refused to eat all the good food and get nice and plump. Although to be fair, it also

It's that silver skin you sometimes see on a steak or roast.

I just binged on the 1st season two days ago. So good!

I usually tip 15% for average service and 20% for above and beyond. Then again, I live in a state where tipped workers must still be paid at least minimum wage ($9.10/hr).

Well...at least now I know how my corpse will look at my funeral.

My Korean mother- and sister-in-law both perm their otherwise very straight hair. My hair is naturally curly and they always ask if I wouldn't want to get it straightened. There is literally no way to be right.

I misread the headline and for a moment thought someone burned down James Spader's house.

My pup (smooth-coated border collie) does whatever he can to squeeze, smoosh, worm, and wriggle his way in between my husband and I whenever we hug or snuggle. Then, when he's worked his way in between us, he flips over onto his back and lets out the most contented sigh.
