I couldn’t have said no to a stable job. I have an ethical line, but it’s not here. And I know that people working office jobs would definitely work for a racist if they had to. It’s difficult to find a job in any industry, whether you’re an administrative assistant or a cameraman.

They don’t always take it in stride though. I remember a blog by screenwriter Josh Friedman, where he talked about how scared the crew was on one his TV shows when they were waiting to see whether or not the show would be renewed. They thought he knew and just wasn’t telling them. He didn’t, but he still fell awful.

I have fucks to spare for both.

From what I know, yes. But I’m not a Hollywood insider. Take what I say with a grain of salt.

ETA: The problem is the contract nature of the jobs. You don’t know how long you’ll have a job for. And ideally, you’ll hit the jackpot with a long-running project. I’m guessing some people do well in this atmosphere and

I understand the POV, but I give a f@ck because it’s hard to get a job in that industry. Crews sit breathless waiting to see if the show they’re working on will be cancelled or renewed. Also, the grip doesn’t have power like that. They’re just trying to make a living. This sort of thing sucks for lower level people

I do blame the manager and the cops—especially the cops—more than Starbucks for this situation. I’m not saying Starbucks isn’t a racist institution. I’m not vouching for the company like that. But the force behind this situation is systemic. Starbucks is a tiny speck of light in wider racist universe. I do like the

I’ve only heard “males” and “females” together. Usually, when someone talks like this in person, they’re talking about the Difference Between Males & Females. “Females” seems to be an AAVE linguistic quirk that is subject to way too much scrutiny.

It’s nitpicking. Who cares? For most people, it’s just a colloquialism.

In terms of just sound, me too, but I like Beyonce’s vocal style more.

Nothing wrong with believing in conspiracies. Just stop calling it the Illuminati. There’s no secret society. People are doing it right in front of you, on the record, with no shame.

Really, when I was around white people, I was “cool.” I got extra points just for being black. And they were happy that I was smart, they were always coming to me for help on homework and once a real life problem because the guy, mistakenly, thought I knew anything about science. That said, the home problems I

We will always have to agree to disagree about #1. Sort of. You’re right about people protecting me. But they were mostly adults, older kids, or kids with more ... life experience. Like kids who had kids and thought their life would be better if they were like me. Also, if I really think about it, there were other

Do you have to be a pedant to surmise that? That’s an ethnic $#*& name.

Not everyone has the same standard of cleanliness. You need to *know* the person cooking your chittlings.

Yep. It’s hard for me to complain about the now when I know about the past. If Ida B. Wells can travel through the American South in the 1890s investigating lynching, I can play my small part in 2017. As a whole, we’re all more than capable of facing what’s in front of us.

I was disappointed, for lack of a better word, when I saw the election results turn you—also for lack of a better word—cynical. I still believe in unity and I still ascribe to the politics makes strange bedfellows philosophy. Maybe because Trump’s win wasn’t a surprise to me, so it didn’t challenge my pre-existing

This is fantastic. I’m going to use it forever.

Ignoring would be great. But it would need to be widespread e.g. not singling us out for policing or spending extra time and effort to systemically disenfranchising us.

Some people are just born more tactile. I touch people’s hair all the time. I touch things all the time. For the former, I always ask for permission. For the latter, I mean ... (This isn’t an excuse for white people touching black womens’ hair. It seems to be a widespread issue, and I don’t believe that many people
