Watch the original series. Sure, they cut out most of the apostles (one of the main “enemies” in the Berserk series), but the story is absolutely worth it.
Also, the english scanlations are actually pretty okay, if you have no other way of getting your hands on the manga. Frankly, even the 1997 series has its problems…

Just read the manga usually i will say the anime good enough but in this series that isn’t true. I don’t know why but there never be a good adaption which is a shame.
