This is an incredibly interesting issue. But it's not one I think will ever be resolved unless we find a way to communicate meaningfully with other species.

If they start teaching the basics early, there's no need to sacrifice anything in my opinion. I didn't finish the last year of high school physics course because I couldn't follow the maths, but I definitely remember that we had covered atomic structure and were pretty much finished with the basics of Newtonian…

Of course they have to learn the basics first, but I don't see why going the Carl Sagan route and explaining something about why advanced physics are cool is a bad thing. It will motivate people to try it in further education, or if they don't they at least have an idea about how it works.
