I'm pretty sure that's Melisandre's voice. The monologue fits her religion perfectly too.

Oooh, snowmen with fangs. I like. Love Strax too, but he has the worst mask I've seen in ages.

Wow. That's gonna keep me entertained for weeks!

I'm not sure where your units of happy come into it.

This is an incredibly interesting issue. But it's not one I think will ever be resolved unless we find a way to communicate meaningfully with other species.

I think the problem here isn't whether or not you think that non-human animals are people. It's that we can't ask them to take responsibility. Yet. If we manage to develop some way of communicating with certain animals meaningfully and they prove that they recognize our personhood and rights as well, would you change

Not exactly scientific, but I believed the basis for The DaVinci Code for about 5 minutes. Oh the shame...

Aha. That's what I get for reading and commenting while having no clue what the article meant. I'm getting enlightened reading other comments though. I'm getting the feeling that the "fake geeks" are the same 14 or so demographic that would have been emo a few years ago.

If you had stopped after the second sentence I would have laughed and enjoyed your use of irony.

At which point whoever decided we were fake would start making long lists and arguments for how they're so not childish at all! ;)

Ah. Well that's not how I understood his arguments. He wasn't ridiculing the basics, just saying that they're not enough.

Fake geek girl is a thing? Right. I guess that's me then, since my geekness is mostly private and online and in my tastes in entertainment rather than joining societies, dressing up and going to cons. Am I right?

Leave him alone. He always gets there beautifully on his own. ;) And his last Dr Who episode was great!

If they start teaching the basics early, there's no need to sacrifice anything in my opinion. I didn't finish the last year of high school physics course because I couldn't follow the maths, but I definitely remember that we had covered atomic structure and were pretty much finished with the basics of Newtonian

Of course they have to learn the basics first, but I don't see why going the Carl Sagan route and explaining something about why advanced physics are cool is a bad thing. It will motivate people to try it in further education, or if they don't they at least have an idea about how it works.

I'm imagining some kid preparing to blow away the science fair.

This. I complain about medical scenes in entertainment, and I'm a veterinary nurse!

Pretty sure that's the choreographer working on Doctor Who.

Lol, I'd love to see that scenario on film!

That's an amazing reason! Thanks for the explanation. :)
