Thanks for the free read alert. Just read it. It's really really good. :)
Well done Charlie Jane!!! Also, Game of Thrones must win!
Very well written post. I hope things will turn around soon but I don't really see it happening. Too many people are completely unable to see past the next quarter's budget to realize that their profit is hurting not only the rest of the world, but their own children and grandchildren.
Is #2 just an excuse for you to get the people who have only seen the show to theorize about this, and maybe come up with R+L=J for themselves? ;)
Suddenly realized another reason why the New People in The Windup Girl were treated so horribly. They look real, but move wrong so they were in the uncanny valley. Except in Japan of course...
Yes. Also, a real human that isn't looking or acting quite right is likely to be ill or damaged in some way and it's often a good idea to stay away from people like that.
They're probably actually made in China but since they finish printing them in the US they're allowed to use the stamp... I know that's how they do it with "Italian made" handbags etc.

Quick wiki check makes me conclude that the American Gilded Age was pretty much like the European industrial revolution. Runaway development with lots of goodies for the factory owners, horrible conditions for the workers who had to be packed into the cities after moving from the countryside. The big difference from…
So is Children of the Sky any good? I started it but couldn't get into it. Not sure if it was just because I came straight from reading A Fire Upon the Deep and A Deepness in the Sky. Those are much more action packed and easier to get into...
Good idea. Go for it!
Those are awesome! You should sell them to authors with writer's block.
I usually have very disconnected fluid dreams, and I rarely remember them. When I do, they usually involve meeting old schoolmates, falling down from high places or being embarrassed in some awful way like being naked. Sometimes those dreams are connected to events in my life and I usually wake up tired when I…
They're already doing Game of Thrones and American Gods, why not Dune? :D
Is this the same guy who had those human bodies exhibited in the same way a few years ago?
I always thought of that as his Galadriel moment.
