I’ve always appreciated the Jewish conception of teshuva (forgiveness) because it’s not about absolution but repentance and atonement (and murder can’t really be forgiven because the murderer cannot make things “right” with the victim, who is dead; at best, a murderer could repent for murder and apologize for the pain

Of course families matter--esp. supportive parenting in the first year of life--but the research about adolescents indicates that peers are a bigger influence than parents during teen/young adult years.
