at the CC level, advisors often have a student load of 700+. I am not kidding.
I think you are kidding yourself is you think that funding to higher ed hasn’t declines. When I was in grad school in the mid 1990s, the state subsidized the flagship university’s costs by about 55% (the rest of the schools operating expenses were generated by tuition, fundraising, grants, etc.). When I finished in…
I’m not sure who is telling people to get PhDs—I’ve been finished and out of grad school since the early 2000s, and towards the end of my grad career, the message, loud and clear, was there weren’t any tenure-track jobs, that there are too many PhDs, that the job market is/was soul-sucking, that one shouldn’t…
it’s not just universities that have bloated administration—CCs do, too.
I don’t think Angelina can carry a movie, but she was good in supporting roles in Girl, Interrupted and in the Gary Sinise biopic about George Wallace.
My mom would make an orange “salad”: orange jello with slivered carrots and mandarins in a bundt cake mold with a center full of cool whip:)
I don’t eat cool whip very often, but my midwestern childhood primed me to like it on canned mandarin oranges and in hot cocoa.
I feel like I should write something like, “Zola? ::shrug::”
my chacos don’t smell as much, but maybe I abused my tevas too much. I was in and out of water, mud . . .
My husband is 5'8", and I’m 5'10"; when we first started dating, here are some of the things that my bar regulars said to him (after grilling him about his intentions toward me):
and the other good thing about Chacos is they don’t stink as much as Tevas.
I hope you like it. I don’t know if I thoroughly appreciated how wonderfully told the story is and subtle the point. I just reread it again last fall, and I was just stunned by Oates’ craftsmanship.
Girl has chosen her lane.
This is what happens when men write and direct women’s stories.
they are all lovely, but I especially like the cat moon-walk.
good job with Archie. Yay! Some dogs are just slower to learn (as are people). My own experience with dogs is that the ones who often learn more slowly seem to have it stick more. Our less-smart doodle never screws up on “sit,” “come,” or “wait.” The other, evilly smart doodle? not so consistent.
I’m not a cat person but Bruce’s face makes me want to cuddle him so hard
I’m sorry that you’ve had something difficult happen in your life—loss is hard!
this really creepy dude who used to go to the dogpark near my house had his neutered dog fitted with prosthetic dogballs—neuticles— so the dog looked intact and then was angry that so many people at the dog park took him to task for bringing in an un-neutered male dog.
