thank you for sharing your story.
I volunteered as a clinic worker in the 1990s, and we’d regularly see women who had been protesting get abortions and then sneak out the back entrance and be back on the line a few weeks later. The hypocrisy was staggering.
in the US, abortion was widely practiced in the 19th century; midwives often used laminaria, inserted through the cervix, to induce abortion.
including my boyfriend who also didn’t want me to be responsible for a child but wanted me to carry to term because his brother wanted a kid.
I am totally digging Anne Lister/Suranne Jones. What a wonderful surprise of a show.
Fightin’ Bob La Follette is rolling over in his grave, I’m sure.
Okay, Mrs. Parker is good (I haven’t seen it in years--Jennifer Jason Leigh was so fierce in the late 1980s/1990s), and I do remember being kind of gobsmacked by Mortal Thoughts.
I’m sure most people have read Judy Syfers, “I Want a Wife,” but the satire is so apropos to this conversation: https://www.thecut.com/2017/11/i-want-a-wife-by-judy-brady-syfers-new-york-mag-1971.html
I haven’t seen Trixie—I had to IMDB it—Rudolph makes such strange movies. Remember Choose Me?
I have seen both Love and Basketball and Beyond the Lights. I also teach a class in US Women’s Film, and for most of US film history, it was possible to watch everything directed by the few women who were directing (now it’s more of a challenge since, finally, women are getting a chance to helm more projects). So, I…
I teach film history, so I watch a lot of stuff—good and bad—and I like Atlman, so I’ve seen quite a few of his films, and he’s kind of the father of multiple-thread narratives (at least the US father). Gosford Park is great, and both it and The Rules of the Game merit a watch.
interesting. thanks.
how many multi-story, everything-is-connected movies aren’t complete and total fiascoes?
I think Love and Basketball is a much better film than Beyond the Lights . . .
I would watch Sanaa Lathan in just about anything.
Bruce is very expressive.
thanks for the Logan’s Run reference:)
Can’t you just keep these “stray thoughts” in your stray head
this is funny.
