I very much doubt that. Zelda Fitzgerald was an incredibly talented woman, and many think the more talented of the couple (especially given that she copy edited and edited much of F. Scott’s work) and she is not simply some “mad woman” being put to screen to be gawked at, jesus.

The book it was based on was good and favors Zelda as the real genius in the situation. I have read the initial script and it’s decent and very much about a unique thinker whose gender made it hard for her to have her writing taken seriously. It’s not a poor white girl story so much as it’s a poor human story. But…

She was actually a very talented artist who became the inspiration behind a generation of women that were progressive and transgressive, and who was unfortunately plagiarized by her more famous husband. Her story is so much more than that of a flapper, even if they were modeled in large part on her image.

Oh, I seriously doubt that. Jen wanted to portray her for years, and admires her. I understand the biography takes her as herself, not just as arm candy and muse for her husband, although her competitiveness with him is part of who she is.

She was so much more than that. To boil her down to that stereotype is a disservice to her.

He absolutely stole material from her, and exploited her talent for his own gain. They were both highly-flawed, but she was mentally ill whereas he was just a straight-up dickbag. I honestly can’t read his stuff or Hemingway’s since I detest them both as misogynist tools.

It’ll only work if Zelda gets her proper due, which given the predominance of white, male writers in Hollywood, I’m not optimistic.
