I didn’t mention Fortnite because (to me at least) its long been a brand playground that I don’t even think about as having a distinct universe anymore. (I know it has lore, but even that is intermingled with BRANDS)

So long as Amazon or other retailers don’t stop. I haven’t bought DVDs or Blu-Rays in a while, but with all the crap that’s been going on with streaming lately, once I actually have a device that can play UHD Blu-Rays I intend to start gathering must-haves again.

Because self checkout is generally quicker and I don’t have to deal with a person. And I can bag stuff myself better than most baggers do it these days.

When the store maintains 2 or maybe 3 “manned” checkout stations, the option is often “add 20 minutes wait to your trip” or “use self checkout.”  Gone are the days of full service in grocery stores.

I overwhelmingly agreed. Cutting in line because you’re too impatient to wait five seconds or too shy to say “excuse me, but that register is open” isn’t a rule of etiquette that I’m willing to observe.

This is exactly why a lot of stores have now disabled the scales entirely. Sure, theft has increased, but it’s significantly increased customer satisfaction (customers feel like the kiosks are doing a better job weighing the stuff, even though now they’re not weighing it at all, and honestly, it felt like the kiosks…

Sometimes, if they’re hanging on too long, overly determined to use one particular [kiosk], I’ll go around them to the open one since they clearly didn’t want it too much.

The store I usually go to seems to have disabled the scales a year or two ago, probably for just that reason. It’s nice to be able to just put the bag right in the cart now

I have been using self-checkout almost exclusively since covid - it seemed easier and meant less human contact, which is a good thing when you’re trying to avoid getting sick. I don’t understand the bagging thing - with a few exceptions almost every self-checkout allows or makes you scan something and put it right…

Honestly with Luke gone I don’t see a point in returning to this site anymore. His were some of the few articles I found tolerable to read or even mildly informative without relying on constant opinion and hearsay without research being done.
