I agree with your basic premise that Melanie Griffith is no great shakes as an actress but, in Working Girl, she was in the room with Sigourney Weaver, who received one of her two Oscar nominations that year for her role in that movie. Weaver most definitely is an extraordinary actress.

Working Girl is nearly a perfect movie. Everyone character is layered and beautiful.
