Normally the response would be that you make it back on software and in this case they are charging the same $59.99 (at least in the USA) for titles, so if they got volume it might work. I don't know what the expectation for number of games per Kinect sold is, but I know they don't have more than one or two

Just remember that there are very few benefits to being the first on the block when it comes to technology. The rest of this week will cover all the gotchas, fixes, app updates that will support the news features, etc.

@subedii: Yeah sounds like iTunes compared to CDs or many other digital distribution services.

@Jon: Yeah I have it installed, I just don't find PC gaming very compelling anymore. Almost all my gaming is on consoles at home, or handhelds while traveling.

@ajamison: Yeah I was just looking at it because I finally installed it on my Mac. I have friend that only uses the Mac and he was asking me about HL2, etc. so I went and checked out some of the stuff they have.

@Knighty: Back when it started I installed Steam because you had to in order to play Half-Life 2 legit and it was a pain because frankly Steam didn't work that well, but I don't really use my PC or Mac for gaming that much anymore.

@ginazninja: You have to wonder if Sony can enhance the capabilities even more simply by adding another Playstation Eye to give it 3D vision, which combined with motion and pointing gives you a whole lot of possibilities.

@kasplat: I can't find any large side by side shots, but from the small promo images released it appears they went with the zoom in solution which chops the top and bottom of the original screen.

Besides the texture upgrade, did they change the camera or expand the field of view, zoom in chopping the top and bottom of the image, stretch the image or what to go from 4:3 to 16:9?

@twinturbo2: Initially I thought NFS: HS might be interesting, but the more in-game material I watched from E3 the more it appears to be a great bit of nostalgia, but not actually fun to play due to lack of things to do.

@krishna830: I did some checking and all sources indicate a beta this fall with a release sometime in 2011.

@Mokon: Exactly, that was a very early build with much less car and track detail and PSN has changed a lot as well.

@TheAngryHeretic: The solution is pretty simple, just buy PS3 multiplayer games. If you don't have a group of friends using Gold Live it isn't going to matter too much since the big benefits of cross-game chat, forming groups, etc. won't mean anything for what you do in multiplayer. The PS3 also has less obnoxious

So when is the big multiplayer beta?

@krishna830: I said Gamestop, so yeah some of these games have placeholder dates that aren't based on anything other than GS wanting to get a pre-order. In the past they would use a date like 12/31 for stuff they didn't have a real release date on, but that seems to have changed.

Initially, I was surprised that most of the games I really want to play don't come out until sometime in 2011.

Other than playing games on the Mac that are normally PC only, this still doesn't make a lot of sense. If you're going to buy, then buy the real game for a real console and if you're going to rent go with a real rental service like Gamefly and you won't be worrying about time limits, plus you can often keep the games.

@Nicholas Pepersack: Some good points on Kinect. In many ways it is more restrictive than the iPhone and iPad where at least you have virtual buttons.
