I had accidentally pulled off one of the monitor leads while in the ICU, and I suddenly had lots of attention with the light on, the wall timer going, some kind of buzzer going and three nurses ready to pound me and both the medical resident and anesthesia showed up in a few seconds.

They are excellent for babka, as well.

Allegedly, it is the replacement for liquids in the recipe, but the moisture content is unreliable.

“...tried any of that “add creamed corn to the cornbread mix” nonsense...”

“And I never know the frequency with which I should be treating the board with oil or anything” ...how about never? I was gifted a bamboo board and I wash it off with detergent and occasionally a little bleach. It’s >10 years old and is going strong. It’s tool, not an heirloom. If it gets nasty, I’ll throw it away

I’ve been using ground nuts (usually pecans) instead of graham cracker crumbs for cheesecakes crusts forever. This sounds delicious and will be slightly similar in taste to a pineapple cheesecake. It’s prettier, too.

Some parents are so uninspired...

Yeah, but not the next Senate.  We gotta vote the bastards out whenever possible.

“If you can’t afford a 15% tip for the staff, you can’t afford to get your iced latte.” Does everything require a tip? Everything? Preparing a cup of some coffee is not like hauling dishes and wiping tables. Tip creep has been going on for a while now, and I want to make a decision based on what the final cost

I think the issue was that he had surgery very recently and was still in a healing process.  Also, since organ failure is a risk, a person with one less organ would naturally be inclined to be cautious.  I agree with you that if the surgery were in the past, it’s not much of a consideration.

If you boil them for about 10 minutes or so (till tender), they come out like New Potatoes and can be sliced into a salad. It takes out the bite. A radish has less that 0.5 carbs so you can eat a barrel of them and still waste away.

When the large supermarket chains were out of lentils I found them at Dollar Tree for a buck a pound.  Occasionally $1 for 12 oz. which is still ok.  Fewer varieties, of course, but there were green lentils and occasionally orange lentils.

Twenty years after we were there.

Visualizing lovely things is nice, but there’s nothing like a few drugs to get you through a flight.  I spend my flights almost obtunded.

Works particularly well on spatchcocked turkey.  No basting.  Just blast away and get lots of crispy skin.

How old is the person who wrote this? That person should not be working alone. My nephews used to come up with brainstorms like this when they were around 7 or 8 years old. Plastic bags are not designed to cope with impact and tearing motions as a starter. This is the pathway to a new washing machine when the drains

I’ve been giving fruit a bath in water laced with vinegar or (preferably) lemon juice since forever.  Let them soak for a few minutes and then rinse. No aftertaste and as far as I know, no “guests”.

The germ-killing process takes place in the pump/filter mechanism of pool. Essentially germ-free water is pumped out to the pool with traces of chlorine with dissipate quickly. The level of chlorine needed to be effective at killing germs would be toxic to humans.

Uninstall.

After I take the medicine, I turn the bottle upside down.  Not very effective for eyedrops, but otherwise pretty handy.
