since $25K is way, way beyond the budget of any new driver that doesn’t have a rich mummy and/or daddy, and I haven’t seen any car yet listed that could be insured by a young driver for less than the price of a small private island here in the UK, I put foreward my personal first-car plan;

A car that is small, has a super reliable Honda motor, has enough old stuff on the car to tinker on, is hard-ish to get replacement panels for and is a death machine - so they understand that driving sensibly is necessary or natural selection takes place. Oh yeah, and it has the same power-to-weight ratio of a Porsche

The main criteria for a first car is that it should be survivable. The cooler the car is, the more likely a new driver is going to be a dickhead in it and wrap themselves around a pole.

If I woke up tomorrow and I was a 16 year old about to get my license and had 25 grand for a first car, I’d want a late model Toyota Sienna. Think about it.

270 horsepower is enough to have fun with. You have seatbelts for eight people, meaning you can fit about thirty teenagers in it. And most importantly, you don’t

The answer is always...

There is a little ambiguity in the story headline... but I interpret it as meaning best first car, under $25k. So first car is the operative, and under $25k is a condition of the operative.

I’ve done this route - and it was amazing! Yeah it’s mostly Canada, but has a good sampling of ‘murica. Except Minot, North Dakota. Which was terrifying. It should be renamed, Faces of Meth: the Town.
