I agree, that's probably the worst part of new car shopping in the foreseeable future. You're not just buying a car, you're buying an OS that you are saddled to for the lifetime of your car. Doesn't matter who the manufacture is. But I don't think its a market share issue, as it is personal preference.

i think the "anti-tesla" sentiment comes from the fact that so far only tesla has the political will (money) to fight the current "broken" system (funded by other money). These laws are anti-anyone new to the car making and selling game. "Anti-Tesla" is just a simpler expression of that sentiment.

I would agree. I think they should bring over the Fabia and the Roomster, bring back the production value to the Jetta.

Probably doesn't completely make sense, but VW could almost use another brand here in north america, either something in between Audi/VW and make VW the more budget end (since the jetta has gone that way anyways) or something below VW that's more budget wise and restore VW to how they were perceived around the 90's…

I have a feeling this list will be very Italian. What makes them great also seems to sometimes lead to mis-steps, either on the business end or in the cars themselves. Other half of list will be British.
