Huh. I’ve never read him as insanely intense, so much as insanely blank with dead eyes. He’s not bad, he just seems to get cast to play the dead-eyed sociopath that the audience can project onto. 

My biggest (nit-picky) critique is that once Anya Taylor Joy was on screen, they kept doing this shot where the camera was placed slightly above her and she’d look up with her eyes, exposing what seemed to be an unnatural amount of the white in her insanely glassy eyes. This last season was so solid, it completely soared over my head that his legal trouble in the first episode would culminate with a do-over of the terrible Seinfeld finale. It’s become one of my favorite films. Pitch-perfect tone, compelling 70s throwback setting, wonderful comedic timing, the best father-daughter relationship portrayed on film...I love so much about it.

Looks like a good entry in the Bumbling Noir genre. I see more Inherent Vice and The Nice Guys in it, from the trailer. He’s got too much energy for a Lebowski comparison, in my opinion. He is a bearded loser, though.

Either way, I’ll go see it. I tend to love these movies that are clearly noir that get broadly panned…
