I lived in the Canadian prairies from 1970-1989 and I assure you, waterbeds were essential living. Heated in winter, cooling in summer - those heat-sinks kept us alive! I thought the point of burning a bridge is to raise your commitment level - isn't it a war metaphor? If you burn your bridges, your troops know that they can't retreat over it and will be more committed to winning.
