By being compassionate about your friend’s personal struggle, but pointing out that an anecdote does not reflect the data? Sure.

I doubt that if they had the most beautiful woman in the world apply for the same job your friend has, but has zero education, it would still go to your friend even if she was a troll in comparison. But all other things equal, your friend would (statistically) have an advantage. The data isn’t proving your point at…
As an anecdote, I don’t doubt that your friend has it very difficult. I work in STEM also, and often feel very alienated (I’m not beautiful by any means, but I am a female) and subject to particular kinds of harassment and belittlement women in other fields might not experience. I’m sorry she’s had to endure the type…
I mean, I could go down the rabbit hole of “there is no such thing as an apolitical belief/action” but I’ll abstain.
I have always held great disdain for those women who say “I’m not being treated well because I’m so beautiful.”
The Center for “Medical Progress” should be brought up on felony charges akin to yelling fire in a crowded theater.
I get what you’re saying, but, I live in an open-carry state. I see people when I go to the grocery store, who have guns prominently displayed, and it makes me extremely uncomfortable. I’m typically of the opinion that no guns means no shootings. No guns means no gun-related accidents.
Seriously, worst fucking room-mates ever.
It’s true, especially some children who might be undergoing cancer treatment, or have other reasons for a comprised immune system - the people who herd immunity is supposed to protect.
They aren’t acting like that. They are acting like having a gun in your home, where your children live, greatly increases the chances of gun-related accidents, which are pretty preventable if you don’t own a gun.
Sometimes, you can’t plan everything out and unforseen circumstances can bankrupt people and put them in dire situations. Even the most careful planners.
Yeah, well, sometimes life isn’t that simple or easy. I find it really disgusting anyone would liken having a child to adopting a pet.
I didn’t want my too-young-to-be-vaccinated baby sitting in a waiting room with a 10 year old that could have mumps or measles
I’m an anthropologist, and the whole Paleo diet thing is a bunch of malarky.
It wasn’t too difficult for my husband and I, because we never had cable and always stream TV shows. Don’t get me wrong, we watch a lot of TV, but it’s like intentional watching rather than just having it on. I grew up knowing what time it was by whatever was on TV. My dad even has this anecdote about how when…
Atlanta.
In my personal experience, every anti-vax parent I have met has been so convinced that vaccines are bad, that there is no reasoning with them. They are entering the doctor’s office with their minds firmly made up and refuse to listen to facts, and are usually outspoken about it. You really don’t want a child infected…
EVERYONE hates the limited screen time stuff. Except of course, doctors. Even my parents, who were on board with all of my attempts to get my son eating healthfully from the start, were like “THAT’S STUPID YOU’RE TERRIBLE FOR MAKING US NOT WATCH TV WHEN WE VISIT.”
I would imagine, given that they seem like super reasonable people, that if someone were to say, “I work in law enforcement and keep my guns locked up when I am at home” and showed them a badge they would make an exception.
Dear World,
