Oooof. In the heat of the moment, speaking extemporaneously? I can see it happen. He’s obviously reaching for an old-timey adjective (after consciously passing on “out of his fucking mind”- you can hear the hitch in his voice) but damn did he pick the wrong one.

What blows my mind is that NHL with it’s four tiebreakers have whiffed on what MLB figured out. An extra game for a playoff seed is exponentially more entertaining than measuring past performance.

I think that’s pretty accurate. I’ve played many a match of Overwatch, it makes for a terrible spectator sport right now. Line of sight is critical for fan engagement. With so many things to focus on, it’s challenging to enjoy in the moment.

They leaked 6 months ago.

Didn’t think my biggest laugh of the day would come from a basketball comment on an auto blog but here we are.

I know you’ve hit them out of the park all the time (while staying at 3rd base!), but this is stellar work. +1 to the commentariat.

but how do you feel abut yoga pants?

Kevin Harlan is so good.

Ever want these comments back?

Whoever I’m interviewing next. Last week it was Lee Ranaldo (of Sonic Youth), this week it’s Mt. Joy (Very Allman Brothers/Dead/Counting Crows), next week it’s BRMC.

Holy Shit, yes it is.

‘OH THE FIRST STUDENT...’ nah, while men’s brains are being destroyed for their piece, you think this is something to celebrate.

swing and a miss.

After 11 years of reading Deadspin, I can safely say the smartest analysis on any given “sport” comes from the boxing enthusiasts. Sure, that’s an symptom of more popular sports attracting casual commenters, but I think it all starts with Farrell, and of course Nolan as well. I’d be crazy if I didn’t tip my hat to Ben

.

Garbage was last a platinum selling group 20 years ago. They are worthy of ‘legacy band’ status, but I would challenge that is absolutely the opposite of relevant. Relevant to YOUR tastes? Sure! But to say people are paying attention to G like...St. Vincent(!) is silly.

Don’t watch a lot of full games these days, catch up on highlights, so I can’t speak to how often Harlan screws up his play-by-play (if memory serves correct, once in a good while), but rarely have I heard an announcer nail the big moments as well as he does.

He was being sarcastic about the EA part, but I can vouch for the latter:

GMG has the best artwork on the internet. Nicely done, Elana.
