I’m sure she meant well and was simply telling people her own personal experience and understanding. It doesn’t make her any less black to the world though.

Its also interesting she says “What I represent exceeds me and does not belong to me.” So she understands that despite her own means of self-identification, she is seen by many as a black woman, or at least a woman of African descent, even if that isn’t at the forefront of her own consciousness. She also refers to

Because if a woman accuses you of being creepy when she was barely out of childhood, the go to is to double down and insist that you almost certainly fucked. What a creep.

Moby was one of those artists I was embarrassed to listen to even though I liked a few of his songs. He seems like the guy to be all “I like yoga, wear glasses, am vegan and into transcendental meditation. I’m safe! Now fuck me.” Guys like him are just a creepy as the overly aggressive frat bros.

This. Also, how is it bad having someone, anyone doing something different/interesting with film, in any capacity? I’d rather have a hundred Malick “duds” than another fucking boring superhero movie. (and I even like many superhero movies) I can’t fathom anyone wanting fewer weird/different/unique/whatever movies to

Even if I didn’t think Knight of Cups was a masterpiece, which I do - hell, even if I thought all of his recent films were failures - I don’t think I could agree. I’m all for letting directors of Malick’s stature experiment with the medium like he has, no matter the result, especially when the subject matter is so

Maaan, I never thought I’d wish Malick would go back to taking 10 to 20 years between films, but here we are.

I don’t buy for a second that the unsullied and the Dothraki, who have been life and death across the seas battle after battle loyal to Dany would have just shrugged their shoulders at her murder..”eh, the murderer gets to live and his brother will take our Queen’s place as ruler? Ok guys cool beans!”

Good thing Jamie left Find My Phone on.

Greyworm’s whole character really fell apart at the end there. Yes, he’s been a follower his whole life, but for someone with such an intense, fanatical devotion to Dany his reaction to her death didn’t make much sense. I can sort of see the logic as in the absence of a leader he had to follow the diplomatic course,

Yeah, Yara’s support of Dany was contingent on Dany recognizing the Iron Islands as an independent kingdom. What made her drop that demand?

The other lords laughing at him was the only part of the episode that felt real.

I’m fully convinced one of the writers was just re-watching The Lion King the night they wrote the scene of Drogon reacting to his dead mom.

Yara: “Wait, we can do that?”

3 Observations

Him being a complete and utter putz is one of my favorite sub-storylines from the whole saga. Arya should’ve challenged him to an archery contest for the throne on the spot.

But seriously, some thoughts:

There must have been 4 or 5 separate points where they cut to black and I expected the credits to start rolling, only for another scene to begin

Welp. That happened.

Part of me thinks this crying was because Villanelle doesn’t recognize herself. “Who are you? Why are you acting like this? WTF is wrong with you? Is this what love it? This feeling?” When she smiles at the end, I think she realizes “Oh, this is new and painful, but I like it.”
