“NOBODY wants you to travel halfway around the world/or cross country at X-Mas to see thier little grand pets. nobody want’s to go to your cat’s birthday, you will never see your cat graduate from cat college, or get married.... or a million other important life changing things.”

I’m sorry that you feel marginalized by pet owners.

I mean, everything you just listed convinced me that having a pet over a child was the right decision.

Yea cuz, wait for it... wait for it... Not everybody owns VR gear, nor will they be eager enough to shell out hard earned cash because a VR game with “Half Life” in the title told them to do it. Honestly, while cool that there’s a new HL game coming out, it’s pretty disappointing that it’s only available to a niche

I’ve been saying for some time now that I have no interest in VR technology as long as I have to strap the equivalent of a block of Velveeta cheese to my face. That until the VR headset is more like a pair of Oakley sunglasses, it’s just not for me. But the more I think about it, the less thrilled I am at the idea

I understand being edgy and pushing new tech but this move to VR for Half Life is bullshit kick in the dick. The fact aside that many of us don’t have PC or VR just to run this game, a lot of people just can’t do VR because of motion sickness. They know damn well how much people have been waiting for a new HL game and

I have a feeling that HL:L Alyx will come to consoles within a year after it’s released on Steam VR. When you have nearly 175 million PS4s and Xbox Ones out there with millions more to be sold over the holidays, that’s a lot of software to be sold. I know that Steam has a lot of money but you can’t just leave money

Even if it turns out to be THE game to be experienced on VR. It will still “only” be a 12-15 hours game. I feel like there will be a lot of “free rental” done at local stores for VR kits.

Forget the costs. It's just an inferior way to play games. Remember when playing Zelda with motion controls seemed like a good idea? It wasn't. And we went right back to the traditional style.

No, actually i’m not particularly rich (sadly), i have to save up money to buy expensive gear regularly, too =( =)

Then you have significantly more disposable income than the rest of us plebs. Congrats.

My PC is VR capable but my HTC Vive broke and I’m unemployed.  Figures Valve would announce a new Half-Life now.

I have to assume everybody else realizes how niche VR is.

But why would so few people have VR heads- oh, right, even by the standards of the ‘frivolous entertainment’ market they’re insanely expensive and of such limited utility that if you’re not a fan of a very narrow genre of games there’s zero reason to purchase one.

I mean that guy who spent 1.4 mill on that one video

Valve has deluded themselves into believing that Half-Life is still capable of pushing hardware despite a literal lifetime between releases. A large segment of their customer base literally had not been born when the last Half-Life came out and now they’re operating under the assumption that those of us who had will

This has long been an issue with VR. The feeling has been that the market needed a “killer app,” but no single game can sell what is essentially one and a half consoles (the headset and the commonly needed GPU overhaul). Granted, there’s lots of cool stuff on VR now, so maybe a great Half Life game can be a tipping

Literally on the article yesterday.

What do you mean most people don’t have 500-1000 dollars to throw around on a single peripheral for a handful of neat looking games?

This can't possibly be surprising to anyone.

But I was told that true gamers all had the correct gear and VR adoption was therefore easy and as a result if we complained we’re a bunch of *ahem* “ridiculous, entitled Luddites”...
