I still like the Aptera better.

I don’t know about 30K miles, but my VW Mk4 TDI’s recommended oil change interval was 10K miles.

Owning a diesel car in America is definitely an unusual experience. Besides panicked gas station attendants running towards me yelling “No, miss! That pump is diesel!” and me saying “No shit, idiot,” I am most often asked if I’m worried about starting my diesel in the cold.

BTW, I *think* this is the P71 with the low miles/high idle hours I mentioned before. Carpets, split-bench seat, all very civilian looking.  If it’s not the very car, it’s equipped the same way.

All good points, and I don’t disagree with any of them. I would still argue that P71s are hit-and-miss though, and this guy sounds like he needs something that he doesn’t have to mess with, and needs it now. That’s why I stopped looking at P71s and went with MGMs instead. I would love to redo the interior on mine to

Bone stock grampa car...

I’m pretty picky about mods of any kind. The only reason I added those sway bars is so the car wouldn’t handle like a boat anymore. They in no way affect the nice ride. I may add dual exhaust when/if mine needs replacing, but not until. I’ve always believed in “the right tool for the job”. If you want a race car, get

To be honest, I wouldn’t go any earlier than a 2005 model. There was a major chassis and suspension redesign in 2003 and the last minor style change was in (I think) 2005. Why not get the absolute latest incarnation of a platform that Ford has been tweaking yearly on since 1978? I wouldn’t go any cheaper either. Stick

.....inexcusably unsafe.........

Thanks. I would have loved to have something sportier, but after looking for something around $10K, I was finding nothing but economy cars with 100K miles on them, but then one of these came up in the search. An almost brand new luxury car with 38K miles on it for only $6K? How could I say no? There are the only

Nope... sold it to a friend and TDI guru right after I got my MGM. It’s his daily driver now.  Sorry.

I’ve heard they’re good, but I think the Fords are more rugged. They are more truck than car at this point in time. The experiences I’ve had with front drive GM cars isn’t that good. Even the rear drive ones (‘99 Astro and ‘94 Caprice wagon) were disappointing. The engines run fine, but the rest of the car falls

Oh, I know. That CV stereotype can apply to the MGM as well. As for the age thing, I’m nowhere near 80 either. I’m not even 65 (yet).

I got mine as more of a ‘placeholder’ car and I wanted a polar opposite off what I had been driving for the past 16 years (‘01 Golf 2dr TDI manual). Something cheap, reliable and luxurious to drive while saving up for something better a couple of years from now. If he just got divorced, got custody of the two kids,

I’ll admit that these cars have a certain amount of baggage attached to them, but keep it stock (looking) and clean, and it shouldn’t be a problem.

For now, I would suggest a lightly used Panther car, probably a Grand Marquis. You can get a like-new 2005-2011 MGM with less than 50k miles on it for around $5k-$6k, maybe less. There are plenty of them around (old people bought them new, hardly drove them, and they end up at estate sales). They’re dead cheap to

“Frost Quakes” are an important part of a balanced breakfast, and are popular in Canada. “They’re Brrrrr-Eh!!!”
