Yeah I am lucky for seeing launches, I live 15 miles from the launch pads. And I got to see all 135 Space Shuttle launches from the Launch Control Center (LCC) as a member of the final countdown team.

Well, I never did see an open air nuke test, but I did see several of the Apollo/Saturn V launches, including the last, a night launch, from a boat offshore (my father was the harbormaster and we got special permission to tie up to one of the Port Canaveral buoys).

You shouldn’t be doing the door holding if you are looking for a thank you. You ought to be doing it because courtesy is its own reward. I know that’s very old fashioned and probably out of date, but that’s the kind of person I am.

Down here in Central Florida pretty much everything is open except the more official places you mentioned. Being the middle of the week means more folks out shopping since they can’t take a long weekend. And the beaches will be mobbed of course.

We live on the east coast of Florida and after evacuating to avoid Matthew in 2016 we got smart and in 2017 planned our normal month long vacation for September, so we were in Montana when Irma hit. Looks like we’ll be out of the state again this September ;)
