I’ve been a Zelda fan since the original- I can’t say Zelda 2 is my favorite, but it’s a great game. I remember spending hours wondering around exploring since I didn't have a guide. It certainly doesn't deserve the hate it gets from some.

In this type of situation, what would be classified as “legally obtained”? Meaning, who would be able to give the media this type of information and it not be considered stolen? Does an employees access to this information make it not considered stolen?
And the reputable thing to do would be to create stickers of updated screen shots to cover over the existing-this is a very common practice in manufacturing. They probably wrongly assumed people wouldn't notice the difference.
