I will admit I’m torn. This thing is beautiful, and I like the idea of a standard can truck and it’s mechanical simplicity. You could drive this a long time:

I’ve heard of a couple people who tried to kill a slant 6 with oil starvation and it never worked. It ran worse but never to the point of not Moving the car

Not  wrencher. How hard is it to just replace the cam? If the cam goes will it take other things with it? If not let it fail. If so, isn’t it cheaper to replace now?

My sister owned and daily’d one for years, trouble free. We also put 240k on a dynasty. They weren’t subtle or refined by today’s standards but they weren’t shit heaps

My sister had one in the 90’s, but with the Mitsu 6 and a stick.

Come to Northern Michigan!

I don’t but if you look at the 0-60 times when they were new you will end up eating dust from the 7 year old Civic Si your neighbors kid owns. But you’ll look cooler.

3 speed? With 146 hp 4cyl??? Uggggghhhhhh

That’s a fair answer.

This. I really respect Toyota, but entropy wins.

This car was off the factory line when I was 16. A buddy’s mom had one just like it.

One thing that astounds me is the just huge sales volumes of back in the day. I think the Mustang is below 100K units nowadays but still considered viable. In 1968 that would have been considered a loser.

I’m in an odd position; defending the Mustang II. I was a kid when the Mustang II was out. I grew up on my Uncle’s stories of muscle car glory and I had nothing but derision for the Mustang II. I couldn’t understand how any automaker could emasculate the cool Mustang.

Take one to Moab next year. You won’t get far in the trails but your ride there will be glorious.

Ugh. German cars.

Vibe?

I live in a snow belt in northern Michigan. RWD kills it for me.

I hate those kind of cup holders with a fury, having been their victim many times.

And like the original grand wagoner, don’t feel you have to have the seven slot grill.

A piece from here....and a piece from there....
