Bingo. I live near the beach here in California too, and sandals are everyday wear for 75% of the people here. Hell, at my cousin’s wedding everyone from her side of the family wore sandals (all from California) and the groom’s side had to go along with that (Philly based folk).

I understand a New Yorker’s disdain for sandals considering the filth of the city in which you reside and the grounds on which it exists.
