Basically if gas prices go up, or when CAFE targets get too strict, FCA is screwed.

counter-point - virtually every single industry in this country has been profitable on the backs of implicit or explicit tax subsidies and/or govt research funneled into the private sector. Tesla is doing nothing unusual or underhanded here.

Yep. Lutz is a true industry insider who is thouroughly entrenched in the old ways of doing business. He was an executive at Ford and Chrysler through the malaise era when the cars churned out were garbage and the companies obviously didn’t give a shit about their customers. Lutz is now an angry old man who is afraid

I wouldn’t say ‘gimmick’, but yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if they pulled forward some future profits and delayed some Q2 profits to maximize Q3's appeal in order to secure better financing for the Model 3.

Bob Lutz is the Rush Limbaugh of the auto industry: standing on the side lines and cheering for failure.

It is not necessary to re wire the whole house to add an electric vehicle charger. If you presently have an electric stove, and electric spa, an electric hot ware heater, or an electric dryer, you can likely use that same circuit for the car charging at high power, you just cannot do that AND the other load

You can charge an EV off a standard 110V outlet, or even a 240V stove/dryer outlet. It’s slow, but charging for 8hr overnight will get you basically a full tank.

This is loooooong overdue. The outgoing Compass/Patriot are godawful and barely even good enough for rental duty.

It seems to have merged the Renegades fun chunkiness with the handsome looks of the Grand Cherokee, I like it.

It’s not attractive at all, tho.
