What this guy said. I love GTIs, and I love my MK7.5, but from everything I’ve read, avoid early MK7s. Aim for 2016 and newer only.

I like to say it doesn’t, but when I was buying my last car and considering the VW GTI vs Golf R, the whole GTI made in Mexico vs Golf R made in Germany was a point on the pros/cons list, however little it actually matters.

Even then, mechanical failures can still happen that result in a collision. Say an object falls in the road, car has to panic break, car behind it also panic brakes, but at the same time car #2's front tire blows, or it was neglected and a control arm snaps, or some other phenomenon happens, and it can’t stop in time.…

I second this question, because the DSG in my Mk7.5 GTI is wonderful.

Man, where were all of you when I was selling my 1996 Cherokee with a 2" lift and brand new BFG All-Terrain T/A K02s, 130k miles, and struggled to get $2k.

Curious to know what’s wrong with the 2.0L’s. Yes the ‘14-15' had turbo problems, but those seem to have been taken care of. 

Definitely go look at a MK7 GTI. They’re just great all around. A wonderful place to be for a commute, nice and complicit when you want, and then you can put the pedal to the floor and have a riot. For $25k, you can probably get a new GTI with it’s 6yr/72k mile warranty, if you’re okay with lower-trim models. Even my 2018 SE/DSG/leather package was only $28k OTD. 

Here you go. I took a pic of mine yesterday before I washed it. When flipped up to open the trunk, the camera is underneath another platform, so you never touch it. When in reverse, both the badge and the camera pop up.
