If you mean GTI, then you were doing it wrong. In sport mode or higher up in the rev range, the shifts are instantaneous. Just piddling around in normal mode and not really giving it a lot of gas, the shifts are slow on purpose for smoothness. 

Agreed, the DSG in the GTI is magical. Even in auto mode, if you’re accelerating hard and higher up in the rev range, and then start to slow down, no matter how gently, as long as your foot is on the brake pedal even the slightest amount, it will hold that gear until you take your foot off the brake or accelerate…

I like this train of thought, but would add up all (or at least more) insurance deductibles. Specifically, car insurance.
