You’re completely correct. It’s direct gear to gear automated shifting; clutch packs release, shift, clutch packs catch, in 8ms time. No torque converter to be found.

Oh I’m definitely only looking at MK7s. It’s GTI vs R for 2017 model for me. 90% of my commute is highway, which is why I would want all of that low end torque with the GTI. Stay in gear, tap the throttle and I fly. The only reason I would want the R is for stationary launches, which will sketchy with the GTIs 2

The choice between GTI and R is definitely a tough one. If I find a deal on a slightly used R, I’d have to consider it strongly.

Thanks for the detailed reply! I am looking at MK7 Sport trims. I haven’t driven one yet, mostly because I know as soon as I do that I will buy one on the spot. My current DD is a MK4 Jetta 1.8t made in Mexico. Often regarded as the worst generation golf/jetta/beetle ever made, with the most unreliable engine, and I

“Do you know anything about cars?” Yeah a little, why? Girlfriend: He’s lying, he knows a lot about cars. “Oh great, hey want to help me build a drift car? I want this and this and what about this and hey I’m going to constantly contact you for the foreseeable future with random craigslist ads of other people’s beater

Just had this the other day. I’m looking at a GTI for my next car, and I’m as die hard manual as the rest, but I’m considering the DSG. The shift times are amazing, and when I inevitably tune it, I have heard from several places that the stock clutch will not hold even stage I. So I showed a friend who wants my help

Serious about filing a lawsuit, probably.

Maybe he’s a transexual man who likes men and drives a manual transmission. If that’s the case, I think the name is pretty clever. So maybe he’s a Trans Man who drive a Manual Trans, Man? I don’t know, just spit-balling.

Wow, that surprisingly is pretty bad. It’s all drone with no build up or finale. I’ve never had a vehicle with a loud exhaust, and now I have an XJ 4.0 with a Flowmaster 40 (stock cat, pipes, tip). It has a low rumble, builds, and above 4k sounds mean. I know I’m comparing a larger displacement straight 6 to a V6,

Maybe it’s on purpose? Look at his pic.

Seriously, why the Hell (see, related to the article) isn’t this on the front page?

Was anything done to the MK7 GTI in turns of tuning? I will eventually want to go APR Stage II, because 400 lb-ft under 2000rpm is ridiculous, but asking the front wheels to handle that, even with a LSD, seems like a lot. Which then of course turns me to the R, but the different turbo make the peak torque higher,

Off topic question - Why do concept vehicles always have crazy tire designs?

That’s probably the best praise I’ve heard yet. Sold an M and no regrets. Awesome.

Good to know, especially since if I get one I plan on going APR stage II. I entertain all experiences, good or bad, so I do hope Semabe responds. Then I can decide whether it was user error or an actual weakness.

Care to elaborate? The GTI is on my short list of next vehicle.

Define ‘car.’ Or else probably some huge diesel dump truck or something with like 200hp and 8 billion lb-ft of torque.

Why can’t it?

Really? Verizon shocked you? Because every other major mobile company came out with an Unlimited data plan, and it was a shock that Verizon made one too?

I haven’t seen it, but it looks to me like the bumper fell off in the 1st picture compared to the 2nd picture.
