How about this, put that energy into effecting actual change. You know how I know they won't? Because our state and local representatives are stocked full of Trump like people who are running our cities and state legislatures into the ground. How about put all that negative energy into changing the local and state

Thank you I get out to vote in all my city and state elections even the one during this election cycle and you know who wasn't there and didn't turn out in numbers? The young white Bernie or Bust supporter.

I know the Bernie Bros at the DNC do not speak for most Bernie fans but they all looked like the most naive, entitled, idiotic people I've ever seen. Chanting about change, and TPP, while interrupting a civil rights leader and activist. Whining about real change when I bet hardly any of them are involved or vote at

I'm sick of this its pure GOP rhetoric that has managed to make it into the regular discourse. HRC will fight for Planned Parenthood, will nominate acceptable if not good people to SCOTUS, spent the 90's fighting to get healthcare for children getting 8 million kids enrolled that hadn't been before.

I agree to a point with Force Awakens, it was merely MEDIOCRE. It has all the same issues the new trek movies have. No identity of its own, no sense of setting, no sense of scale, and simply trafficking in nostalgia and affectation.

This as bad as some of the Trek movies have been at least I remember things about them usually the ideas they are trying to present at the very least. Generations for all its badness grapples with the ethics of surrendering to paradise vs trying to save a bunch of faceless people. Its bad but at least it has some

First Contact is a funnish action movie but not really good, I'd say Undiscovered is miles better. First Contact fundamentally misunderstands what made the borg terrifying and complete softens and nerfs them. The borg was terrifying because they had no leader there was no one, they were a collective. Too turn them

>which would not exist without this series of films.

Man, listening to Lin waxing nostalgic about why he likes Star Trek almost makes me want to see this as it seems like he really likes the series. The fact that the movie seems like a trifle that is easily forgettable, has a dearth of ideas, yet another generic baddie, just seems like I've already seen this film twice

Okay but all I'm asking is that some of what he envision is there. These films retain nothing from Trek other than the names and look of the ships. If you were to reskin these films with different names for the characters and change the ridiculously exaggerated caricatures and different looking ships I don't think

While I agree with that completely, I can't think of a worse aesthetic and style for Star Trek. I'd argue he's a better fit for Star Wars. It just really seems like the people at Paramount don't like any Star Trek in their Star Trek and eschew as much as what made it quirky, dorky, and unique as possible.

Okay sorry, was writing quickly before going to bed. Is hack-kneed, cliched, tired, better?

yet he doesn't and the AV Club generally give B's to a film that can at least be fun. I'd say a rollercoaster is a B experience, the C movies you listed before can't even achieve that they are C+ experiences that can barely even muster up being fun let alone being a good movie.

I respectfully disagree. Wrath deals with the nature of noble ideas being turned toward distruction as well as the consequences of revenge. Undiscovered Country continues that theme and highlights how old grudges can come back to haunt is ways we can't imagine, as well as how holding onto old ideas can impede progress.

I have to respectfully disagree. Khan and SFS both deal with the consequences of revenge and holding that hatred in your heart, as well as how noble ideas can end up with devastatingly destructive consequences. Undiscovered Country was about how easily peace can be hamstrung by people holding onto old traditions,

That's not necessarily true Wesley is kind of an anomaly for how young he was to be in Starfleet or at least on a ship.

Wut the eff are you talking about. It could have been any modern pop singer. Bieber is just as good an analog. I mean she's more talented sure but I can't think of two things that have less in common with each other. I have just as much of a problem of the fricken Beastie Boys being used in these new movies and gas

and I have a feeling that after the hype dies down a bit and people actually stop and think about this movie even marginally they will turn on it. Maybe not as hard as STiD but really a 4th Death Star like thing, and a goddamn dirt bike sequence.

God, reading about that I cannot see how people can defend this tripe. Are fans so desperate for Star Trek to be good they are willing to over look how stupid that is. I have a filling just like STiD people will turn on this one shortly after the hype dies down.

None of the reviews seem to indicate it is anything more than fun, loud, dumb action. I mean for chrissakes there's a damn dirtbike sequence. Just because something wears the clothes and names of Star Trek doesn't make it so, and having really great charismatic actors basically do impressions of the TOS cast doesn't
