That’s a apt summarization of your “argument,” yes.

Don’t even bother. HighCharity is a child with a childish understanding of everything. Look at his comment history, it’s pretty much all hate under the guise of weird regressive liberal protection. Everyone is racist, sexist, etc and then gets accused of having a micro-penis or is then called “hun”. He’s very angry,

Holy crap do you have a poor understanding of the world. You literally “Stereotype” multiple times in your post, and still do not understand that categorization is a necessary tool in any being’s brain, especially people. Getting bit by a dog as a young child and then fearing big or aggressive dogs from then on is

Your right to have an opinion is as anyone’s. That it’s valid? No. Opinions are not inherently “valid.” Otherwise the opinion of someone who says “the Earth is flat” is just as valid as an astronomer saying “the Earth is round.”

This goes into a now-long, hmm, “disagreement” I’ve had below with HighCharity. The reason we appeal to stereotypes isn’t out of positive or negative connotations; the idea of “stereotype” is a neutral one that is then adjusted to be positive or negative.

Oh I have. And I’ve read a lot worse things than you in my time. Your “explanations” amounts to nothing but assumption and conjecture. The fact your response is one of those classic throwaways I’ve seen more times than I wish to count only validates even further that you got nothing.

Gay people: We enjoy this character and identify with her.

That’s great but some of us will take any representation we can get. More than anything it’s important for people to see LGBT+ people in the media. More than once I’ve been questioned - not out of hate but ignorance - about my sexuality, and I let it happen. I do this so people can talk to a gay person and see that

Must find the outrage, somewhere.

Did you hear this from the President of Gays? When did they make that declaration? I missed it. I’ll take any sort of representation over none. To say nothing of the fact all stereotypes come from some truth.
So what if she looks like a massive bull dyke? Rock it. That’s pride.
That’s only really visible on this side

I believe you are the hopeless one here, considering you have yet to actually explain any of the logic other than stating, to paraphrase, “this is bad because it’s bad.”

Well, I’m half with you and half not.

And I’ve been saying this entire time stereotype can be bad. But it isn’t always bad. It’s not “bad” by default, it’s neutral.

But it’s still a game about people, about unique characters. If you wanted a game that’s really about living or not, go play a military shooter or a survival game. Something where lore means virtually nothing and characters might as well be cardboard cutouts with guns.

No, stereotypes are not “always bad.” Let’s examine the “Asians are good at math” stereotype. Yes, that one IS reductive, but because it places emphasis not on who they are but on how their abilities and an interpretation that inherently ties race into it.

I bet you’re also the type who “never sees race.”
I too wish I’d have the luxury to not care about gay people in my games. Or claim to, at any rate. But seeing as there are barely any, and we’re now starting to see some small change in that, I’m gonna have to take the low road and be happy about a fictional video game

Pretty sure a large part of it is because at one part in the game she suggests that Mei should take her coat off, and people are interpreting that as a come on. The article mentions that in most of the fan-art that shows her as gay, the two are usually shown as a couple. THAT is where the assumption from many comes

So it’s wrong to assume that she’s anything other then straight, then? Or do you think it’s wrong to talk about her sexuality whatsover?

Inferring that a character might be gay is not the same thing as “sexualizing” them. Gay people do, in fact, have lives outside of their bedrooms.
