What “roots”? GM simply purchased the brand name from AM General a mere 20 years ago.

This is all interesting stuff but the most surprising to me is the existence of a machine for doing what I was specifically told never to do, putting cold water in a hot engine.

They didn’t gut anything. Taxi’s and Car services still exist. They took apart the regional monopolies that existed in the industry, but they didn’t gut it. Hell, did you even understand how the NYC taxi medallion system worked and how absurd it was?

Then the driver’s need to start being more picky, creating a demand for more drivers, forcing the company to raise wages or prices to the customer. Then the rides might start being worth the driver’s time. I have no sympathy for people who willingly choose to take low wages and then cry about it. Just stop driving for

Because as a private contractor, these driver’s decide for themselves if they want to provide their services through the app. But when they rely on the app as their only way to make a living, they basically whore themselves out to the lowest bidder. And if Uber can increase profits and the driver’s keep turning on
