Can we please retire “whip-smart”? As far as I can tell it just means “smart, yet somehow also female.”

Watched the first episode of this remake and ... nah. I really like Will Arnett but this is just not that funny. The best thing about it is the noir-ish lighting and music, but that’s not enough to make it funny when coasting celeb buddies crack each other up.
“placing a much larger moon in the background of those [mass destruction] shots doesn’t make them significantly more thrilling.” Well, I don’t know. We’ve seen aliens of every stripe in their various space ships blowing up the earth. We’ve seen earthquakes and volcanoes. Maybe old Mr. Moon can make something new of…
Yes, no disrespect to his acting skills, but unfortunately casting Patrick Wilson as the lead (and putting him the center of our triangle of heroes) basically tells the viewer “it’s OK, you can skip this one.”
Lol you summed up the character to perfection. It’s a genius formula for books precisely because of the blank slate quality. I’m not a guy but I too enjoyed the fantasy of being consistently underestimated and surprising everyone with kickassery. Also, to be basically safe in any setting because so incredibly tough…
I haven’t seen it either, but I’ll throw my hat in the ring.
Only if Katy Perry’s in it too.
Needs more stars.
So I guess Adam Brody has been cast as the Jeff Goldblum character in this series because actual Jeff Goldblum is too old to play him. Still trying to wrap my mind around all of these actors being old enough to play 40-somethings.
My thought precisely. Her lawsuit got a lot of news coverage, so the falsehood in the Line (as her complaint has it) is now widely known. Mission accomplished. I don’t begrudge her, though. The character in the show had bizarrely smooth sailing with her male counterparts—substance abuse problems aside—given what…
My thought was insane not to make it a five-minute sketch. I think even a movie length version would drain all the funny out of a moderately funny premise.
Quite the glow-up on Rogen. He almost looks like Ben Affleck in that picture (say what you will about Affleck, he’s a conventionally handsome man).
Like the commenting level? Done!
She’s an amazing performer but the right movie/show never seems to come along.
I want that for Corey.
Full disclosure I am 100% uninformed re: comic book origins of these Marvel shows and movies, but schmeriously what next? A-list actors duking it out as dark versions of Frankenberry and Count Chocula?
I liked parts of Cloud Atlas. Imho, as with The Corrections, it worked *despite* the authorial grandiosity, not because of it. In other words, the human moments were so good they saved the sometimes hamfisted attempts to tell us a tale of all of humanity in all its vast scope and complexity. In a way, I categorically…
Can you recommend a syllabub syllabus?
Just to voice the minority opinion here, I really like Pete Davidson’s work. Unlike the director of his new movie, I do not think he has range as an actor, but plenty of stars have zero range. I think he can definitely play a nursing home employee.
Mirai was fantastic. My whole family enjoyed it a lot.
