Same! I had that “I know I’ve seen her before ...” feeling, the penny only dropped when I saw the headline for this post.

I have to differ re: Kidman. People are entitled to do what they want with their faces, but I always remember as an uncomfortable viewing experience watching Baz Luhrmann’s Australia, which was supposed to be this big sweeping period epic. It had enormous golden-hour closeups of her face against the Outback and it was…
Given how sensitive the subject matter is, his involvement with the movie might have been a mistake—wittingly or not he probably advocated for choices that pushed it towards the “loving tribute” category, when the essay itself is darker and more challenging.
He seems completely charming. I find myself weirdly disappointed that he’s not actually Canadian.
They should do an all-ads Superbowl. Plus a halftime show. That would cover the parts I watch.
I beg to differ, I think we’re talking about carbonated drinks. The difference between soft and hard drinks is that hard drinks contain alcohol, but going by the original definition, non-carbonated lemonade is a soft drink.
Same!! Although I got annoyed with the increasing amazingness of Mary Sue Maturin over the course of the series, I think I dropped out before I finished it.
I saw the movie for the first time quite recently with my kids, and I thought to myself, wow, an unapologetically athletic, confident, muscular female character without hang-ups about her appearance or romantic status! Why couldn’t we have this character, but without the villainy? Pam Ferris was great and her…
My husband liked this movie possibly even more than I did. I found it sweet and enjoyable, but I had a hard time suspending my disbelief because of the ultra-streamlined, tidy depiction of a life in politics. It would have made more sense in the corporate world but then you’d lose the idealism angle.
Great tip! It sounds like a good enough show that it’s worth investing 14 minutes to get some back story. I had the same reaction as Nebuly re: not being sufficiently invested/interested in the MCU to get all the stuff that’s going on—but I like the classic TV angle a lot so I do want to give it a shot.
I don’t see why KK can’t give presents to people she’s worked with for something like 20 years.
Parlor could become HUGE just through this--Trumpies signing up and just using it, thinking all the while hmm, this is not quite what I thought it would be, but OK, whatever. ‘Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished.
I think her hat provides the answer you seek.
I remember enjoying them a lot at the time. And isn’t that “Sure, Jan” gif that everyone uses the Marcia from the movie, not the original show?
I would probably enjoy this, because I’m over 40 and have been exposed to enough of the same cultural stuff as these two, and find them both appealing. Still, I’m not sure I’ll actually watch it. It sounds like the series works best as a mild memorial to one or two bygone versions of New York City, and I’m…
That’s the party line—except for those who are claiming it’s all down to their favorite imaginary friend, Antifa (right, sure, you have no choice but to stockpile semiautomatic weapons and plot the takeover of the US government because of like two guys in ninja masks. JFC.)
Ladies with straightened lobs (that’s “long bobs” for those of you aren’t conversant in hairstyle), going by the images above.
Great, thanks!
Any thoughts on whether this would be appropriate to watch with a kid?
Relatable!
