Homer had a brother?  I guess he went the way of Jack Donaghy’s vast clan of siblings.

Right, *and* (I hadn’t watched the movie when I originally commented), when we do see his actual Black human body, a character voiced by a white actor actually occupies that body for quite a big chunk of the movie. Which is so weird and problematic (at least in the context of next to no massive-budget animated movies

Thanks for continuing to create a place where we can mostly not talk about current events or politics.  Much appreciated.  Happy holidays.

Wealthy lady who’s been wealthy for decades is out of touch, says wrong-headed things.  Film at 11.

Welcome, welcome to the drawer

Yeah it’s weird but for some reason I tend not to seek out movies about people’s kids dying.

Narnia.

That’s how I took it too.  But either way, I’m just so glad there’s going to be a true season three.

Bereft of life, he rests in peace.

I wish I lived near a drive-in. It’s interesting, isn’t it, how the pandemic brought us endless Zooms but then it’s this old technology that allows people to get out of their houses and be in somewhat close proximity to each other.

Me too!!

Book cover designs have gotten so good.  The bar is set really high now.

She was very good. Jack Black wasn’t bad either, although characteristically a little too manic. They made for a fun odd couple (nonromantic variety).

I think it works on the page because the books are so so long. You could cut out most of the background/side stories about the other characters, leave in the ones that interest you, and you’d have the book you’re looking for, more or less.

That’s how I felt about movie version of The House with the Clock in its Walls. The main character is a fat boy, it’s utterly central to his social experience if not the magical aspects of the book. I hated that they cast an average-sized, average-looking child and stuck a funny hat on him as if it was all the same

I read The Stand for the first time in March-April 2020 (needed to process the whole pandemic thing and feel comforted that cars full of corpses weren’t actually clogging up the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels). I was stunned by how precisely and specifically incel Harold Lauder turned out to be. Prophetic on King’s part.

It’s a lovely movie. I’ve only seen it once but I think it’s time for a rewatch.

Agreed, not smoking has a lot to do with it. And sunscreen, and getting enough sleep. I also have a theory that Winona Ryder and Heather Graham have both aged so well (or rather, don’t appear to have aged much) because neither has children. I love my kids but there’s certainly less time for jogging on the theoretical

But the elevator doors.  Good stuff.

He’s kind of like the other Tom, he mostly does stuff in his wheelhouse.
