Problem is, is that that happy and enthusiastic is all they're allowed to be. Unhappiness is an expression of ingratitude to your parents and God for all they have given you. Stubbornness, moodiness, sadness, anger, being cranky or having a bad mood is "rebellion" and is ruthlessly quashed, post haste. A "joyful

The article didn't say that there was something wrong with nursing or teaching, but these girls won't even have to chance to do anything else or even then, the education they get will not be the same level as those who actually go to a post-secondary school in person.

While I agree with you and hate that some jobs are painted as "pink" collar, let's be real here. The point is that these jobs that get painted as "pink collar" are the only choice for the Duggar girls, and they still will never actually have the chance to get a real accredited masters in teaching or nursing unless

Sorry — being anti abortion means you are anti choice. Luckily for the anti-abortion camp, they are usually called "pro-life" in the media and political sphere, even though it's pretty clear that they are only pro-life when a fetus is involved.

This attitude made dealing with my depression extremely hard. I thought it was a moral failing I couldn't shake off my negative feelings and just be happy. I did however become awesome at faking happiness so much so that almost everyone, my parents included, was completely surprised when I attempted suicide because I

I grew up Catholic, I decided at one point it was not for me. I left the church. No one hounded me, shunned me, physically threatened me, or even excommunicated me. I guess at 16 I was far too strong for their mind control techniques! Also none of these things were a part of my experience: oppress women, impose

Please explain how the belief that no one should have the choice of whether or not they want to have an abortion is not accurately described as "anti-choice". That is the basic tenet of the movement, so where is that term incorrect?

Actually, that is the correct terminology. When someone is against abortion that means to them women should have no options when they become pregnant, hence they are anti-choice.

Boom! Nice one.

They push into politics, therefore trying to affect all of us by the way they believe. That's where the tolerance stops.

LOL. That does sound fair and rational to all of us pro-abortion people. Some people think that we should be called pro-choice, in that we think women should be able to choose what happens to their bodies and should not have those rights denied by puritanical authorities hell bent on pushing their religious motives

I don't know, something that I'm made to do only once in awhile, where I never get encouragement, instruction, education or simply the time to master the task? Yeah, I'd "choose" not to do that too.

Shorter MarielProulx: "I don't know what tolerance is at all but I to like to be mean to feminists and liberals on the internet because unlike those Duggars, I know how to use it! BOOO!"

What if being positive and enthusiastic is not in your wiring? Is that really a fair expectation to have of everyone?

Also I've never gotten the whole explanation for death being that God wanted them closer to him. So... why doesn't God just kill all Christians to bring them closer to him? Does their large presence on Earth mean that God doesn't really want them near him after all?

Thats basically one of the reasons for the quiverfull movement. They want to outbreed us dirty liberals.

This 'family' is a cult. The father, probably a child molester as well, employs power and control over children 18 years and older? He should have NO SAY over what they do anymore, but the patterned thinking is set, and stepping out of line carries severe internal consequences even if they believe they are 'free

Depending on what your field is, you totally should do it. If you are in religious studies, you *definitely* should, or sociology. But what you'll find more interesting than the rate at which the kids stay or leave (actually that has been studied so you;ll find good material there) is, what those that remain say

While as a feminist, I'm absolutely horrified by the Duggars and other Quiverfull families, I desperately want to do an academic study of how the first generation of children raised in this religious ideology (which began in the late 1970s/early 1980s) accept or refuse their parents' way of life. My dissertation

It's enraging how mainstream media outlets like Today and People treat the Duggars as though they're just an ordinary family with an extraordinary amount of children — and aren't they so cute! — when in fact, they are not.
